Snoop lion – Reincarnated

When Snoop Dogg renamed himself Snoop Lion and announced a new project centred around reggae and claimed that he has always felt as if he was “Bob Marley reincarnated”, we feared that he had well and truly lost it. But true to his word, 12 months later and the enduring rapper’s new album Reincarnated hears him soaking up Jamaican culture for a collection of easy-going jams.

The results are surprisingly listenable. Early and lacklustre teaser track ‘La La La’ has pleasingly been demoted to bonus track status, while Major Lazer – whose latest album is their own take on the genre – have taken on production duties for the majority of the project. Their influence is felt strongest on house-tinged banger ‘Get Away’, which hears Lion rhyming over smokey bass, steel drums patterns and hypnotic synths to glorious effect.
